• Aluminum composite panel is a kind of composite materials, structured as sandwich panel. It consists of two thin aluminum face plates as front and real panels, and polyethylene as core materials, all of which are laminated through macromolecule lamination film. The abbreviation for aluminum composite panel is ACP, or ACM (aluminum composite materials). In Europe, it is also called Alucobond.

  1. Specifications (Size) of aluminum composite panel

  For different application, aluminum composite panel can be produced into different thickness, and the aluminum skin can be also different, accordingly. Usually, for exterior curtain wall cladding use, the aluminum composite panel should be at least 3mm or above, and the aluminum face plate should be at least 0.3mm or above. On the other hand, for interior decoration purpose, the aluminum composite panel can be 3mm or below. Surely, the thicker the ACP and the aluminum skin are, the more durable it will be.

  2. Painting (coating) kind of aluminum composite panel

  In aluminum composite panel manufacturing industry, there are two kinds of coating kinds, Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) painting and Polyester (PE) painting.

  PVDF is a highly non-reactive and pure thermoplastic fluoropolymer. It is also known as KYNAR, HYLAR or SYGEF. PVDF painting is very durable, especially in environments requiring the highest purity, strength, and resistance to solvents, acids, bases and heat and low smoke generation during a fire event.

  Aluminum composite panel coated with PVDF has strong resistance against solvents, acid, rain and sea wind. Therefore, PVDF aluminum composite panel is usually used in exterior for facade cladding or curtain wall purpose. Using PVDF painting, the ACP color can be stable for 20 years or above.

  Polyester coated aluminum composite panel is widely used in interior decoration usage or signage purpose, due to its comparatively low resistance to hard weather, such as acid rain, strong sunshine. With the same specifications, PVDF aluminum composite panel is about 1 to 2 USD more expensive than Polyester aluminum composite panel in cost.

  4. Characteristics of aluminum composite panel

  1) High strength, good rigidity

  Aluminum composite panel has the similar structure as "I" beam, but it is more than on "I" beam, as it has PE filler sandwiched between aluminum skins. Therefore, it has very good bending resistance, strong wind pressure resistance and doesnt tend to deform or distort.

  2) Super flatness

  Due to the special I beam structure and that aluminum composite panel is produced through continual thermal lamination technique, it has good flatness, compared with other single metal panel. Used in architectural building, an integrity effect can be acquired immediately.

  3) Selective various colors

  Aluminum composite panel can be treated into various colors. Using modern photographic technique, even very complicate surface finish can be attained, such as granite finish, wood grain finish, and so on.
